Dr. Adrian Ruiz is an acclaimed trumpeter, educator, and recording artist based in San Antonio, Texas. Active internationally, he has performed at major festivals including Montreux, North Sea, Guatemala, and Taichung, and has appeared throughout the U.S. A 2021 Grammy nominee for Live at the Paramount with the Ruthie Foster Big Band, Ruiz has shared the stage with an extraordinary range of artists spanning jazz, blues, pop, and rock, including Norah Jones, Gary Clark Jr., Clark Terry, Eddie Palmieri, The Temptations, and The Who. A dedicated educator and clinician, Ruiz has presented at JEN, TMEA, and TBA conferences and serves as Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Jazz Studies at St. Mary’s University. His debut album as a leader, Premiere: A Collection of Originals, was praised by jazz historian Scott Yanow as “creative jazz that is easily recommended.” A Schilke Artist since 2017, Dr. Ruiz holds degrees from UT San Antonio, Texas State University, and the University of Texas at Austin.
