Frank Chapa is a San Marcos based Saxophonist originally from Brownsville, Texas. Rooted in the rich musical culture of the Rio Grande Valley, Frank’s playing reflects a deep respect for jazz tradition while embracing a latino, modern, and forward-leaning voice. Currently a master’s student at Texas State University, Frank studies under renowned saxophonist Joel Frahm, refining a sound that is both lyrical and creative. Frank’s musical voice is deeply influenced by the artistry of Dick Oatts and Jackie McLean, blending expressive phrasing, bold improvisation, and a commitment to storytelling through sound. Whether performing original compositions or reimagined standards, Frank brings intensity, warmth, and spontaneity to the bandstand. Joined by John Bordini on Bass, Ian Clark on Guitar, and Jose Godinez on Drums, this is a performance you do not want to miss!
